Unique Tips & Info You Should Know about the Sleek Nikon Coolpix B500

Let’s start because this camera has a massive zoom for its base price of $200, making it an exciting and fun everyday camera to work with. It can easily also be an events camera, sports camera, and almost any type of camera you need it to be. It’s big enough to go into a purse even with its lens fully extended so that you can walk around with it with ease. As for the sensor has a 16-megapixel sensor it’s about the same size as your cellphone. This camera has a macro mode which allows you to get super close to objects, and it’s an auto-only camera; it does not have a manual mode. It also has a dial-up at the top to take different scene modes depending on what you’re shooting, like nighttime, sports, and portraits. I wouldn’t consider this camera for DSLR work, rather whip it out and have fun with its awesome lens. As for photos, this camera shoots at 7.4 frames per second which is fast enough for shooting your son’s soccer game or your daughter’s dance recital. Its photos come out to a 4k resolution, so printing them or displaying them on a large screen should be great. Another thing about this camera is that it has 120 frames per second in VGA quality. That basically means it allows you to take 120 frames per second (120 pictures per second) which is pretty crazy for a $200 camera. This camera is perfect for skateboarders because you can get 120 frames in slo-mo. As for the video, the camera offers 1080p in both 25 and 35 frames per second and a 60i per second but not 60p. That means those 60 frames per second are interlaced, so if you slow down, you’ll get scan lines, so it may not look the best for slo-mo videos. This camera has a low dynamic range for both video and photo, giving the photo kind of a retro look to it, which makes it unique, especially in videos.

Here are some quick tips for the NIKON COOLPIX B500 you should consider:

Always clean your lens to get the best picture and sharper view, much like when you have a dirty windshield.

Make sure you use a memory card with an SD class reading of six or faster to make maximum use of this camera.

Always understand the exposure triangle because it refers to the 3 most important elements of exposure. In the B500, you can only control the ISO. It would be best to use a lower ISO on this camera. Also, during shoots, it would be best to use a tripod because high ISO can give average to lower quality images.

Turn off Digital Zoom it may stretch the scene too much resulting in an unclear image.

Turn on Manual focus because focusing on the subject is always a better option. > Go to the shooting menu > AF area mode > then move your focus point to wherever you want it to focus and click. Suppose you want to change your focus point Press OK and move it.

Autofocus

This camera is truly one of the best in its class when it comes to autofocus. It has face tracking and does a great job tracking a face in both photo and video mode. For the audio, this camera does not offer a mic jack even though it has great audio. Plus, getting one would take the fun out of this camera if you ask me because its beauty is in its simplicity. It will pick up your voice if you get close to it as well as the ambiance around you, and It’s a great travel camera.

Excellent Features

Its design is the most surprising thing about this camera and the fact that it has wifi and NFC built-in so you can send photos from your camera to your phone, which can be very convenient as well. This camera is also very well built, durable, and it has a nice deep grip. All its buttons are nice and clicky, and the zoom extension is really smooth. Even the screen on the back is very well built. The software in this camera is also excellent; it has a feature called scene modes built into it. So depending on what you’re shooting, the camera can either auto-detect, or you can tell it what you’re shooting, and it will automatically adjust the settings for you. That’s something nice to have especially if you’re doing a casual shoot like small family events or hangouts. I like casually shooting metropolitan scenery because it gives me that retro artistic type of shot that I really like. The best part is that it’s surprisingly easy to use, and so is the software. This camera is auto only, but if you want to change something like white balance or ISO, you have to go into the menu itself, but the camera does a great job on auto.

Battery

The batteries on this camera are different as it doesn’t use your standard Nikon battery. It uses a AA battery which you can buy at your local convenience store. The camera, however, does come with the 4 batteries included. You can get up to 4 to 5 days of shooting on a single charge, so if you ask me, that’s pretty worth it. Also, on the bright side, if you ever run out of battery in the middle of a shoot, you can quickly replace them without hassle. So at the end of the day, this camera will do you great if your shooting far lengths or even a game at a far length; basically, the lens is a must-have. It truly gives a unique and interesting look to your images. If you’re a camera nerd who likes to experiment with different cameras and get interesting looks out, this camera is a must. For the price you’re paying, you’re getting a truly unique look out of your images.

Let’s finalize this blog with some more tips on Macro Photography. For the NIKON COOLPIX B500.

First, try to go as close as you can to the subject.

Always try to shoot at eye level, & always experiment with all angles high, low angles, side, or ground any position, really.

It’s better to turn on flash while shifting. This adds to your exposure, and the images come out sharper. Add diffuse to your flash so it doesn’t come out with too much exposure.

Sometimes you need to avoid the tripod even though you think you will get a better shot with it. When it comes to timing and exposure, the best time to shoot your photos is in the early mornings—around 7. The best places are a garden or big green landscape or forest for that perfect golden glow.

In the nighttime, make sure you have sufficient light like flashlights, headlights, etc.

Don’t zoom into much on the subject with this camera because images may get a bit pixelated. Rather get close to the subject.

Follow the rule of thirds and divide your frame into a 3×3 grid and place your subject at those lines.
