Top Features You Need To Know About the New iPhone 12
With the announcement of the iPhone 12 Series, Apple allows its customers to choose between several models, introducing iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro max.
iPhone 12 can be considered an entirely new iPhone since iPhone X. The previous two generations of the phone had similar designs to the iPhone X and were improved in certain things such as the camera, display, and battery. However, the iPhone 12, with its new design, is unique.
Apple iPhones dominated the tech landscape since they first appeared back in 2007. Announced in October of 2020, the iPhone 12 series marks a significant design improvement on the market over the last three years. iPhone 12 series feature four new iPhones across a range of prices. They offer OLED displays, squared-off design, 5G connectivity, plus ultimate photography experience. But, Flidbe’s blog shows, Apple’s standard iPhone 12 is fantastic all around. These series were Apple’s mainstream flagship in 2020. Flidbe claims that these phones are the most exciting new iPhones we have seen from Apple in years. So, do these four iPhones compete against each other? Are they enough to seduce you away from Android? Don’t worry. Flidbe is here to walk you through it. You will find out the answer in this blog. Let’s find out!
Design
The sharp edge of the iPhone 12 reminded so many of the nostalgic iPhone 4 and 5. The new design and upgraded screen of the iPhone 12 have excited all iPhone fans. The frame and the back cover are placed next to each other as if the device’s body has a uniform structure. There is no longer a plastic strip between the frame and the display cover on the front of the new iPhones, and the two elements are directly tangent to each other.
Like the previous models, Apple designers made the iPhone 12 frame with the aluminum used in the aerospace industry. The iPhone 12 uses a 6.1-inch display with rounded corners, and thanks to the flexible OLED panel, the edges around the screen have become narrower. As a result, the iPhone 12 screen has a 7% increase in size compared to the iPhone 11, which delivers up to 86% of the front view. In addition, a ceramic shield protects the iPhone 12’s screen. This shield is a composite glass-ceramic coating claimed to be up to four times more resistant to falling.
The iPhone 12 was released in black, red, white, blue, and green. However, later on, April 30th, the purple model came into stock.
Display
All 4 iPhone 12s feature an OLED display called Super Retina XDR, and there is no longer an LCD on the base model. The advantage of the iPhone 12 display compared to the iPhone 11 is quite apparent, But these differences are less noticeable in the Pro versions due to the fixed panel type. The iPhone 12 comes with a 6.1-inch screen, and thanks to a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels, a density of 460 pixels per inch are enough to deliver sharp images.
The iPhone 12 display supports HDR10 and DolbyVision, just like the iPhone 11 Pro, But it also has a high-dynamic-range video recording. The HDR10 uses static metadata, and Dolby Vision uses dynamics, and the HDR content experience on the iPhone display is as enjoyable as the previous generation.
iPhone 12, with its OLED panel, delivers the most significant change in the display. The uniformity of the brightness in the pattern of 100 and 50% means that the brightness potential of most iPhone 12 screen is higher, which according to Apple, increases the HDR content playback up to 1200 nits in certain conditions; With the HDR10 video pattern, the brightness also increased to 1350 nits. iPhones have always had very bright displays in manual lighting and were among the best, but higher numbers can be seen in Android flagships in auto mode. Overall, the recorded brightness for this phone was slightly lower than the previous generation but is still excellent.
Software and UI
Apple’s new iPhones come with iOS 14.1, which is not much different from iOS 14. The most noticeable changes occur on the home page, with new widget dimensions and a new App Library feature. For example, the user can place different widgets in 2.2, 2.4, and 4.4 dimensions on all pages. On the other hand, now you can put widgets with the same dimension on top of each other to create a layered widget.
Camera
The most significant hardware upgrade is for the new iPhone cameras for the more expensive iPhone 12 Pro Max. This phone has a 47% larger sensor, a new Sensor-shift system, and a telephoto lens with a 2.5x magnification in it. The iPhone 12/12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro use the same camera as their predecessor. The difference is that their main camera now uses a 7-piece lens with a wider aperture of f / 1.6, which Apple says helps capture 27% more light and higher detail levels than the previous generation f / 1.8 lens.
The software algorithm of iPhone cameras has also undergone many changes. Apple says it offers three capabilities, Smart HDR 3, Night Mode, and Deep Fusion, based on the stunning processing power of the GPU, CPU, neural processing engine, and ISP of the A14 chip.
In a medium to dark light conditions, all four iPhone models use the Deep Fusion software algorithm with all their cameras; An algorithm that, by capturing multiple frames and analyzing them at the pixel level and selecting the best part of each, will produce clear, highly detailed images, according to Apple.
For everyday photography, the Smart HDR 3 algorithm works with all four iPhone models; An algorithm that achieves realistic images, using the A14 neural processing engine by identifying different parts of the subject, adjusting the contrast, white balance, and exposure separately for each piece.
One of the admirable features of iPhone cameras is the smooth movement between the three cameras, which is implemented even in the most prominent and expensive Android flagships with a noticeable lag.
Efficiency and Performance
Supporting the fifth generation (5G) network is the most important feature of the new iPhones, and Apple paid particular attention to it at the Hi-Speed event.
The A14 Bionic, the world’s first 5-nanometer mobile chip, is the beating heart of all Apple iPhone 12 models. Apple says its new chip has more than 11.8 billion transistors in its womb, up to 40 percent more than the A13 Bionic. In addition, the chip uses two powerful Firestorm cores and four low-power Icestorm cores with new architecture as the CPU. It uses a new quad-core module with an improved memory compression algorithm as the GPU.
