The Eve Motion Sensor Supports Thread
Eve, a smart home firm, released the second iteration of its motion sensor, part of its shift to Thread.
The Eve Motion is the first independent motion sensor to utilize the Thread wireless protocol, a cornerstone of the new Matter smart home standard. It communicates wirelessly via Thread and Bluetooth Low Energy.
Eve Motion uses standard AAA batteries. It may be placed anywhere in or around the house to work with other HomeKit devices.
Eve Systems claims the new Eve Motion can withstand light rain and splashes thanks to its IPX3 water resistance and compact design.
The Eve Motion’s 120-degree field of view allows it to detect motion within a nine-meter range. Its new light sensor will enable it to detect motion and changes in lighting to trigger HomeKit gadgets.
It can combine with Eve MotionBlinds to automatically raise or lower the blinds in response to changes in brightness, for example, when a person enters the room. It can also switch the lights in a room when motion is detected.
All Eero Wi-Fi routers, the HomePod Mini, and the Apple TV 4K (second generation) are Thread border routers.
Thread border router updates for the fourth-generation Echo smart speaker, as well as the second-and third-generation Nest Hub Max and Hub, are planned for release later this year, according to statements from Amazon and Google.
Through a simple over-the-air software update, all Eve Thread devices, including the Eve Motion, will be compatible with the forthcoming smart home protocol Matter, which Apple will support, Amazon, Google, Samsung, and others. The debut of Matter is scheduled for later on in 2022.
This is Eve’s fourteenth product to feature support for the new wireless protocol, Thread, which was developed with smart home gadgets.
The Eve Energy smart plug, Eve Room air quality monitor, Eve Door & Window sensor, Eve MotionBlinds, Eve Weather station, Eve Aqua hose controller, and Eve Water Guard leak detector are all available in Thread variants.
