Microsoft Starts Publicly Testing A New Xbox Night Mode

It’s past midnight, and the glare from the monitor or TV starts to wear heavy. And, every gamer will attest to the appeal of “one last round” and “one more level.” So the good news is  Xbox is now testing out a night mode that will allow players to dim their screens, among many other features, including controlling the LED brightness on their controllers.

Microsoft is working on a new feature -night mode- for Xbox consoles. The company started testing this night mode with Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring.  The feature will take a while to reach a polished release. It allows Xbox players to dim their screens and controller LED brightness and power button.

This Night Mode can be triggered manually or by setting a schedule cycle from sunset to sunrise. It has been a standard feature across many devices, and it’s cool to see even gaming consoles adopting it. This feature will enable gamers to set a blue light filter and dim their screens, plus modify the brightness of the ambient lights on both the console’s button light and the LED in the controller.

The night mode has a variety of customization, including different dimming levels and an optional blue light filter. If everything goes well, you will have a more consistent nighttime experience regardless of which screen you’re using. There’s also a toggle that lets you decide if they want HDR impacted by Night Mode. Additionally, an option to schedule the Dark and Light themes to be active at different times of the day. Then, users can adjust the brightness of the LED Xbox logo on their controller and console. Also, you can set an Xbox to switch to the dark system mode and disable HDR when the night mode is enabled.

As you probably agree, Xbox Series X is not an evolution of the Xbox One that launched in 2013. After the Series X|S launch, Microsoft was the first to get both Dynamic Backgrounds and access to free-to-play games without a Gold membership. Now it appears that Xbox is using Insiders to test another upcoming feature. Hopefully, this move -delivering Night Mode- will allow Xbox to serve as a role model for PlayStation and Switch and finally lead to a Night Mode feature appearing on those consoles as well.
