Microsoft Edge Will Get Bunch of New Features at Build 2021 Conference
Microsoft has announced that at Build 2021 conference, Edge 91 will ship with a handful of new features designed to use Microsoft Edge more performant on low-end hardware.
The newest model of Microsoft Edge is established to give the Windows 10 browser a sizeable speed strengthen and welcome updates in electrical power usage. These new features include “Sleeping Tabs” & “Startup Boost” built to keep Edge running smoothly on low-end hardware as it seems to take on the likes of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
Sleeping tabs are a feature that already exists in the Stable channel. This feature takes tabs that you haven’t used in a couple of hours and stops refreshing. It brings performance gains to users who have multiple tabs open at once. Edge now automatically turns background tabs idle and consumes less power. Microsoft points out it can reduce memory usage by 32% and uses 37% less CPU on average. This frees up resources, and clicking the tab again will quickly load it back into memory.
Startup Boost is a feature that allows the browser to launch faster by running a set of core Edge processes in the background. Microsoft points out startup of Edge will improve by between 29% and 41%. Startup boost is on by default; however, users can disable it if they want.
The company also pointed out to world-wide-web explorer, its venerable browser, which is getting retired and removed from Windows 10 around the following number of months. The company claimed that when Microsoft Edge 91 arrives, it will be the fastest browser available on Windows 10.
Their team has submitted over 5,300 commits to change the open-source Chromium engine Edge shares with Google Chrome. The tool is forward-compatible and works with Win32 C/C++, Windows Forms, and Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF).
Microsoft Edge 91 is set to begin in production this week and is available now in the Beta channel.
